Weather has been great so it's time to fly... to the Salinas Owners and Pilots Association Flour Bag Drop & Spot Landing Competition!  Weather permitting, the Salinas Owners and Pilots Association (SOPA), invites the Half Moon Bay pilots to a friendly flying competition at the Salinas Airport (KSNS) on Saturday June 27, 2015. at 1:00 PM.

ACTION! Want to join a flying team? We're looking for three pilots to form a team and join the fun - assuming the weather permits escape from the summer fog... Please email membership@hmbpilots.org if you're interested in either joining or forming a team to represent the Half Moon Bay Airport Pilots Association.  Details from the Salinas association include:

The competition will be a flour bag drop and spot landing contest.
A beautiful trophy will be presented to the winning airport team.
  • Teams made up of three (3) planes per airport team will takeoff and fly the pattern one time to familiarize themselves with the location of the flour bag target and the landing chalk-line.
  • The pilots/copilots with have two flour bags to drop.  They will be dropped on the second and third pass over the target. After the second flour bag is dropped the pilots will set up for a landing coming as close to the chalk line on the runway as possible.
  • The distance of the flour bags from the target and the distance from the chalk-line on landing will be added for a score.
  • The combined total score of the airports three plane team will be added for the total score for that airport team.
  • The team with the lowest score wins the trophy for their airport.
Weather permitting, fly into KSNS earlier (0830-1300 hours) for our Airport Tenant Appreciation Day and free lunch.  The competition of the airports takes place after lunch at 1300 hours (1:00p.m)
